here and in the top bar, is built on top of hot water tanks. There is another set of such tanks in Reykjavik; these tanks serve as buffers for the hot water system. All houses in Reykjavik and neighboring cities are heated with hot water, that means that there is no need to turn the heat on or off when you leave the house, the heat is always on, and as for a hot bath that is always easily available, only drawback is that it sometimes smells like egg.
