Icelanders have a wonderful sense of humor. This practical joke was a part of a "war" between two high schools (grade 11-14) in Iceland. Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð (MH) and Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík (MR). These schools have a very old rivalry going.

This time the reason for the "war" was that these two schools were about to meet in the final of the high school debating competition Morfís. MH started the fight by kidnapping the head of the MR student body. A lot of pranks went down, school mascots were kidnapped, light bulbs were changed and my personal favorite: The entire MH parking lot was turned into parking space for handicapped. This was quite an effort! Apparently it took only 13 minutes to turn over 100 parking spaces into handicapped spaces. I wonder if the homework is hard enough?? The war ended with a truce before the competition took place to keep things from getting really out of hand.

by the way MR won the speaking competition.
