One of the things that makes a city a city is its various modes of transportation. Without mass transportation, mass communication and mass resource management modern cities would be not be functional and therefore would not be the preferred way of living.
We will try to uncover the various backbones of Reykjavik, giving you dear reader greater insights into what makes this city tick. Even deeper insight then the average Icelander can ever be bothered to obtain.
Public transport is not big in Iceland, the car is king, there are no trains, limited domestic flights, the odd ferry and buses are there for good measure. It is almost as if busses perform a function only to those who for some reason cannot drive; youth, senior citizens, drunk people and people who’s car wouldn’t start that morning.
This is quite a contrast because the busses that travel the streets of Reykjavik are very cutting edge, from standard diesel- to Methane- and even Hydrogen busses. Let us hope that in time Reykjavik reaches its potential of becoming not only the cleanest but also the worlds first virtually pollution free capital.
