Studded tires

Today April 15th is the day when we switch from studded tires to regular tires. Studs are quite common even within Reykjavik where most of the time they are not needed since the streets are constantly cleared and salted through out winter.

The Studded tires are great only in really Icy conditions, which are not very common these years. The drawback however is that they make a lot of noise and do tear the roads to shreds whipping asphalt dust into the atmosphere. After today the police starts fining 5000 ISK per tire if people get caught out so it is wise to change, especially since you can get a brand new tire for that amount of money.
