About 45 minutes drive from Reykjavik is one of Iceland's most scenic stretches of beach. On the tip of a peninsula wedged between the ocean and the delta of a large river (Ölfusá) lies the restaurant The Blue ocean. For some obscure reason it is closed over the winter months, which is a pity because there are few things more stunning then having a nice cup of hot chocolate after a walk on the beach during the frosty winter months.

If you are ever in Iceland do give this place a try.

It might not look very impressive but the equipment above has certainly served is purpose. Entirely mechanical free from any expensive electronics.

Anyone who has ever seen the ocean at its mightiest will know that fishing is no occupation for the fainthearted. These pictures show an old style "verðbúð" a place where fishermen would spend their fishing season, fishing, eating, sleeping and preparing for fishing again. The boats would have been wooden and without any motorized help.
